If you are unable to open Office 2016 applications and get this error message:

If it won’t start, try repairing Office from ‘Programs and Features‘ in the Control Panel.

Something went wrong We couldn't start your program.

Check Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service

Description: Manages resource coordination, background streaming, and system integration of Microsoft Office products and their related updates. This service is required to run during the use of any Microsoft Office program, during initial streaming installation and all subsequent updates.

It should be set to Manual and should be able to start.

To check it:

  1. Go to Computer Management -> Services And Applications -> Services and look for Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service

Seba, thank you, my friend. I had not been using Office for a week or two. And now that I needed it, I get this message and start googling to find a solution. And found it here. 🙂

Thank you so much – mine had become disabled and therefore would not run. This was a quick fix once I found this post. Unlike the advice/blog on the Microsoft site
